Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch at Ridgefield Farm & Orchard

by Tracey 10/22/2011 7:57:00 PM

We took the kids to Ridgefield this afternoon.  It was fun.  It was a beautiful fall afternoon.  Perfect for wandering through a corn maze and walking through a pumpkin patch in search of the pumpkin with the biggest stump/nose (Stewart's request.)

This picture of him makes me think of this, "I carried a watermelon!?!?"  Baby from Dirty Dancing.

Random pics of the week :)

by Tracey 10/22/2011 7:35:00 PM

This is my latest vinyl wall quote installation.  I put it in our bedroom, right over my night stand.

Bill's deuce burger.  He wanted two patties, so i doubled it up when I made them.  It has a layer of cheese and jalapenos in between.  He thought it was super yum.

This is us at Stewart's flag football game last weekend.  :)

Me and the little troublemaker having breakfast with a new friend.

Tuesday, I sat in my office and did this and other dumbass problems like this.  IMHO, balancing equations is a big crock of shit.  So is stoichiometry.

Parker in his gymnastics class.  He is so enthusiastic about it.  I enrolled him in a more advanced class that starts in Nov.  He just loves rolling and jumping around the floor.

Tulle Nightmares and Tutu Dreams

by Tracey 10/13/2011 11:40:00 PM

I'm girlie - as if you haven't noticed - and I've been wanting a tutu for a while.  I have aboslutely no where to wear a tutu - but that doesn't mean I can't put it on and clean the house while wearing it.  If it makes doing laundry/cleaning the kitchen/vacuuming more fun/enjoyable, bring on the tutu!  I looked up some patterns and it seemed totally simple, 100% no-sew.  I bought a pattern, just in case, and I put "tutu" on my craft wish list.

And then Holly asked me to make her a "candy corn" tutu.  Of course I said yes.  When she was here, we got lots and lots of tulle to make our own tutus but we didn't get that far down our Big Craft Weekend list.  She got tulle to make a Christmas tutu.  I got black, magenta, and white (it will have a black and white polka dotted ribbon waist.  Very Tracey.)

This gave me a good excuse to go back to Hobby Lobby - and I got 45 yards total of white, orange and yellow tulle.  i didn't have the pattern with me, and I couldn't remember how much we got before - but I thought 15 yards of each color seemed like enough. (Right?) Apparently, I only needed 6.5 yards of each color - which worked out well because I threw away a lot in my first attemps at making this monstrosity.

Following the instructions of http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2009/01/want-to-make-your-own.html I proceeded to cut 2 in strips in each of the colors.  What a pain in the ass that is.  I'd like to think that I am better equipped than most.  I do have quilting supplies that make it very easy to cut strips - I swear I could slice up my shoes with this rotary cutter.  I got started at looping it around the waist.  I wanted to try to do a layered look - like a candy corn (White - Orange - Yellow) so i cut the strips in 3 different lengths.  I spent 3 hours cutting and looping and i wasn't pleased.  I thought it looked kinda dumb.  So i took it all off and tried again.  Still looked dumb.  So I took the piles of cut strips and shoved them in the trash and prepared to start all over again.  I got my pattern out and spent a good HOUR cutting and layering big pieces of tulle.  I had 35 layers - i put the pattern on top and then I cut the strips.  I had a ginormous pile of strips.  This seemed like a good place to start, again.  I had faith, I was using the pattern after all.

This is probably a THIRD of what I cut.  Think about how thin tulle is - this is a lot.

Several hours later:

I don't think it SCREAMS candy corn, but it is the appropriate candy corn colors.  I kinda think it looks like fire, but that's just me.  Also, Bill is a really good sport.  He models all of my craft projects and he doesn't complain.  I would also like to point out that this is his favorite lounging t-shirt, which would explain why he is always wearing it.  And yes, it is clean.

I may need to cut a few inches off the bottom before I try to shove it in a box and mail it ("It's like trying to stuff a cream puff through a keyhole.")  This is knee length - ON BILL - which means it's like a maxi dress on me and my short friend.  Cutting some off the bottom might help it look less "nappy."

I'm onto my next project.  Bill's Christmas stocking needs to get made - FINALLY.  I found a kit (at Hobby Lobby, YEA!) and I need to start it so it will be finished by Christmas.  Yep, there will be pics.  ;)

This is me . . .

by Tracey 10/12/2011 6:52:00 PM

. . . in class.  Bored.  We are balancing chemical equations.  This is where I started flunking Chemistry the first time.  Oh Boy!

Yes - i am #1. playing with photo booth in class.  #2 blogging.  #3 taking notes on Stoichiometry.  Yeah, I can multitask.  :)

Random pics

I am considering quitting Facebook - so I can post more to my page.  I mean, I have my very own .com - that's kinda cool!  So anyway, here are some random pictures that you have probably not seen before.  It's like bonus content for the 3 people that frequent my blog and facebook!  Enjoy!

This is my wal art project.  Looks fancy doesn't it!  It's one of those vinyl quote kits and a frame.  The original quote read "All because two people fell in love . . ."  It didn't fit inside the frame.  So I took out "all" and put the " . . . " at the front.  Holly and I both agreed that we like it like this much better.  I painted the background to coordinate with the darker paint I used on our front rooms.  I think the painted background really makes it stand out.  This is a frame from Hobby Lobby (YEAH!  We got one of those out here!  I'm still excited!)  It came with no glass and no back.  It think it looks nice

This is Bill pretending to the Captain Morgan while modeling my first knitting project.  I told him to give me his best Mark Wahlburg and I got the Captain.  Silly boy.  But damn!  that scarf looks good.  :)

My little boys at the park on October 4th.  I guess they aren't so little anymore.  Shit - Stewart is a young man.  Is it obvious they are brothers!?

Who knew it would be so hard to get them to #1. sit still and #2 smile.  I think this is the third take.  Parker wanted to immediately slide down and then he refused to smile because I wouldn't let him slide down.

This hairball on a purple metallic stick represents my second knitting project.  It should be a scarf made out of this funky yarn called Fun fur.  It's hard to work with - have you ever tried to french braid a Shih Tzu's hair?  Well, neither have I, but I imagine this is what it would be like!  I hope it looks decent.  I really want a thin and super long scarf this winter.  I tend to be ridiculously picky, so I'm just gonna try to make it myself.  I hope it works out!  Wish me luck! (PS - does anyone have any pointers on how I can remember where I left off on the knitting and purling of rows?)

This is what it looked like on Wednesday when I was in Chem lab.  Maybe it looks like it could have been fun - if your idea of fun would be making molecular models using the molecular models kit!  Not really mine.

First of all, please disregard the really stupid mistake that I made on #3.  Secondly - I got a 94! on my second, first Chem test.  Not sure if I got an A on anything the first go around.

Fun times!
