Parker & Stewart's Dr. Appointment

by Tracey 7/22/2008 2:55:00 PM

I FINALLY moved the kids to a pediatrician out here.  I really liked the one we had in Reston but it is just too expensive to drive back and forth.  Anyway - it's a long story but Bill ran in a 5k a few weekends ago.  He finished 4th, the guy that finished 3rd happens to be a family dr out here.  So I looked him up and the rest is history.

When I scheduled the appointment I got all of the BS about how we can't schedule a 4 month checkup until you are an established patient.  Irritating.  So I had to schedule this new patient appointment for both of them, knowing that Parker would need to come back in ONE week.  I HATE THE CRAP DOCTOR'S OFFICES PULL TO GET MORE MONEY FROM YOU AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY.  I printed off all of the new patient paperwork and the release form to have their records faxed over from the other Dr.  They still tell me I need to get there 35-30 minutes early - even though I have all of the paperwork filled out for both of them.

Their website sends me to mapquest to get directions.  I HATE MAPQUEST.  Their directions are horseshit - and they have gotten me lost so many times.  I quit using them and I only use Google Maps or RandMcNally.com (who better to trust that a company that actually makes MAPS!)  But because I'm in a monster rush (don't even get me started about my morning) I print off the directions and go.

The stupid fn directions landed me in the middle of Deliverance.  I finally stopped and asked for directions - this woman was outside with her three kids, the youngest of them (a little boy) was running around wearing only a pair of cowboy boots.  She wasn't doing much better herself.  But she gave me decent directions and I found my way.  We got there at 9am.  Their appointment was at 9:25.  I see people come in and leave.  New people come in and sit down, see the dr, and leave - AND WE ARE STILL SITTING THERE WAITING.  The nurse FINALLY called Parker & Stewart around 10am.

The nurse went through the whole checking vitals thing with them both - which also took forever.  I didn't come prepared because I was in such a rush this morning, I didn't bring his diaper bag and he desperately needed a fresh diaper.  The nurse said they had some and she would go get me one and she didn't.  So after the vitals she says," If Dr. Cucuzella doesn't have a room available i'm going to have to put you in another sub-waiting room."  WHAT THE HELL.  Luckily, he had a room open.  So we sat in the room for another 20 minutes.  I'm trying to get Stewart to stop running around and playing with all of the sensitive equipment.  Stop stepping on the pedal and making the trash can lid bang up against the wall - WHILE trying to keep Parker enough entertained that he doesn't start crying.  So he's rolling around and drooling all over the butcher paper they have on the patient table  - and I'm very quickly running out of patience.  I can feel my Empty light turn on and I'm about to just leave.  It's taken way too long and I didn't have what I needed for Parker - he kept spitting up all over me and him (and I'm dressed to go to work, but now i'm gonna have to go home and change.)

The dr finally comes in.  And he's nice.  Very patient, asked a lot of questions and let me ask a lot of questions.  He seemed very impressed with Parker's strength, and that he is already rolling over, he can support weight on his legs, he's very vocal etc.  Same drill with Stewart - everything was great with him.  I was just expecting this to be a new patient appointment, but he was able to also make it Parker's 4 month appointment, without me even asking!  AND he offered to get me a new diaper - i told him i was a bit embarassed that i didn't come prepared because he needed a clean diaper (it was sooo wet!)

So poor baby Paker got 5 more shots.  I don't think the nurses should ask the parents to hold their child down while he is getting shots.  It's mean and I want nothing to do with it but they made me stand there and hold his two little chubby legs down while he got 3 shots in one leg and 2 shots in another.  He immediately starts screaming, Stewart hides underneath a table - fearing that he's next.

It was an exhausting morning and I'm no where near finished for today.  This is another one of those fabulous school nights for Bill - So i'm on duty all night until he gets home.  Hopefully he gets home early because I think he has a test tonight.

Lol - I know you just read this whole rant about how pissed I was at the dr, and all you really want to know is how much they weighed and etc.

Parker - 13.9 pounds and 24.5 inches - up from 11.1 pounds and 23.25 inches at his 2 month checkup

Stewart - 44.2 pounds and 3 feet 7 inches

They are both in the 50th percentile for both height and weight.  So i have two doubly average kids that are exceptionally cute.
