A fellow blogger posed the question in her own blog, but I can answer it over here on mine.
The first and most obvious reason is because I have this beautiful page - created for me by Bill. it's www.traceybondurant.com. I have to say something! It's me, just the www. version of me. As I've gotten older, changed jobs, moved to new cities and states - I haven't developed many new lasting, meaningful relationships (or "dumplings" as Holly and I call them.) I have really only made one sincere girl friend since high school - and that was over 10 years ago. I don't care who you are, you need a girlfriend. And my friends live far away. Not just in neigboring states, but states away. So i blog because i like to talk and I don't really have anyone to talk to. I can't sit here and talk about handbags and makeup with Bill. His eyes will glass over so fast you would think I popped Steel Magnolias or Beaches in the DVD player.
But blogging also gives me a chance to write - which i've loved since I typed up stories on a real old fashioned typewriter in the second grade. I've always wanted to be a published author - but I've come to realize that I'm not the best writer and I can't think of anything at all I could write about that a publisher would find worth printing. So this blog kinda feels like I'm published. It's my words out there on the world wide web for everyone and their dog and their Korean aunt to read.
It's also a good way of staying current with family and friends without having to relay the same story 50 times via phone and email. Its a great place to distribute pictures and anectdotes. I know everyone has received one - that holiday card stuffed with pictures and a 5 page letter telling you what great fantastic things their family did that year. This blog removes my need to send out the long obnoxious letter where I tell you why my family is so great and why my kids are cuter than yours.
I've met nice people through their blogs - well only two - but I think when it comes down to it, I just like to do it. In a way, it's a record of my family. I'm writing our history! I spend so much time at work concentrating on other things, I spend time trying to study boring subjects for school - when i blog, it's my time to be narcissitic and write about me and my family. (And have I mentioned today how handsome my husband is and how cute my kids are!!!?)
