I think I might be too tired for this. But I need to do something or else i am going to fall asleep and it's only 7:30.
After we had so much fun playing on Thursday, he had a great day at school on Friday - all hell broke loose in his little baby body on Saturday. He woke up and he was burning up. I gave him some tylenol. His fever went down so we went out. We drove to Frederick (about 20 miles) and we went to the mall. Bill needed to have a link taken out of his watch. He has needed to have it done since December. I guess he got tired of waiting, Friday he said, "Maybe I'll just take it up to Wal-Mart." The idea of taking his Tag Hauer watch to Wal-Mart to have some high school student try to take a link out scared me. So I took it. This was also the first time that i had stepped foot in a shopping mall since we took Stewart to see Santa Claus at Christmastime - and let me tell you, the mall in Martinsburg is not a proper mall. One of their anchor stores is a Wal-mart, get my drift. This mall in Frederick was decent. The best part was that they had a big shiny new Barnes and Noble. Damn I miss the bookstore. I miss taking Stewart to the bookstore and looking at books with him.
Anyway, so I took the boys out, we ran some errands. Parker slept a lot - he didn't quite seem himself all day. He just slept. A LOT. Around 6pm I took his temperature. It was 104.2. I gave him some Tylenol but his fever didn't go down. At 9pm, his fever was 104.5, i gave him some Motrin - and he immediately threw it up. At 9:50 his fever was still over 104 so I called the on-call physician for our family practice. Someone paged the doctor. I waited an hour and no one called. So I called again. Another hour went by, Parker was running a fever over 104 and no one called. I gave him some more Tylenol and called again. This time I let them know I had been waiting for three hours and this was my third time to call. She put me on hold and the doctor picked up the phone in less than two minutes. The three hours of waiting for a callback was a waste of time - she basically said she didnt really know what to say without evaluating him first. "its up to you if you want to bring him in." Jeebus.
By this time it was midnight and he was lying on Bill's chest, sleeping. I sat here staring at him. I took his temperature like 4 times and finally i decided I just needed to bring him to the ER. We got in and triaged very quickly but the waiting for the dr took a long time. And then we had to wait for a nurse to swab his nose and his throat. And we had to wait even longer for him to get an x-ray.
Let me just say, the ER in Charles Town, after midnight is kindeve a freak show.
Anyway, the doctor finally came back and said he has pneumonia in the right side. And he prescribed Augmentin - even though he was wearing the yellow bracelet on his foot that said I am allergiec to penicillian - and it was written in his chart. So he came back and had prescribed Zithromax.
We didn't get home until almost 4am. I am so tired! Its hard to sleep in (or get sleep) with a baby and a 5 year old. We were up and cleaning the house by 9am. Today we bought a big red maple tree, Bill and Stewart planted it in the front. I bought groceries, cooked red beans and rice, shepherds pie, did the laundry. I'm sitting here in my comfy bed, with fresh sheets, and I just want to lay down and close my eyes. But I've promised Stewart some book time (he just read his first sentence!) and I also told him we would look at Star Wars legos online.
Parker had an OK day. I can tell he still isn't feeling well. He was running a temperature today - it's lower now, 101-102. But he's just not being the same baby. He's just sitting around a lot, he wants to be held a lot, and he wants to sleep. He's had his first dose of Zithromax and I gave him Tylenol and Motrin several times to try to control his fever. Poor little baby. I just seems like he has had such a rough first year.
