Facebook games

There is this weirdness about me - I tend to collect things in "groups."  For example, when I bought Season 1 of Grey's Anatomy (to catch up; I started watching during season 2 or 3), I now feel like I need to have all of the consecutive seasons to go with my "collection."  I did the same thing with the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the BBC version of Coupling, Rome, the Land Before Time movies (i think we have 1-13) . . .I also do this with books.  I got into reading John Irving, and I bought all of his books that were out at the time.  I did the same thing with Sophie Kinsella, Philippa Gregory, the chick that wrote My Sister's Keeper.

There is something about this weirdness that makes the facebook games really addictive for me.  I started with Fishville - and it was fun enough but then I discovered Cafe World.  I found Cafe World fun and enjoyable - i love cooking, so this mindless simple game was fun.  But then I wanted to upgrade to better tables, chairs, wallpaper, flooring, windows, doors, stoves, counters etc.  It's a bit ridiculous.  So one day I announced to Bill, "I'm quitting Cafeworld!"  It lasted about 36 hours.  I got back on and then I gave in and started a farm on Farmville.  Which is way more addicting for me.  I wanted more animals (cows, chickens, sheep, goats, horses, penguins, cats, geese, ducks, rabbits, oh my!) and trees, and vehicles.  I didn't realize how much it had become a "problem" until Wednesday.  Farmville was down - all day.  And it killed me.  I can't tell you how many times I kept checking in to see if it was back up.  And then it dawned on me - I realized how much time I have wasted playing those stupid pointless games.

So today, I quit them.  I've been called a quitter.  Friends have sad it won't last; that I will come back.  To them I say, NOT A CHANCE!  I sold every thing I had on the farm.  I made a big red X across my field with hay bales.  I'm done.  I sold everything in the cafe.  What was once a bustling 5 star restaurant (at least it was in my imagination) is now a big empty room with no tables, doors, windows, fireplace, bar, stoves, or counters.  I even fired all of my staff.  This time - it's for good.  I have better things to do with my time - like blog about things no one really cares about.

I'm not big on new year's resolutions - but i'm definately crossing that one off my list!
